Narrative

Decades of conflict have left Liberia with high poverty rates, limited access to healthcare and education, and widespread unemployment. To achieve sustainable development the country needs a healthy business sector that provides employment. Our program addresses the challenges of Liberian society by supporting micro and small scale businesses that can create employment opportunities, as well as working in parallel with the reintegration of communities that are still carrying trauma from the war.

Below the poverty line people struggle to survive and war affected men and women struggle to reintegrate into civil society. Creating employment is crucial but locals lack the training and resources to create and run a business in order to become self-sufficient and provide opportunities for the community. They need funds, training, and support to implement their ideas into real business.

By entering into an equal partnership we can support Liberia in building a healthy society. Liberian people possess knowledge about the local context and its needs, but due to the lack of a functioning education system, they need accounting and business management training. We support local entrepreneurs by providing loans and constant support through business coaching and accounting training, to scale their businesses and create employment for the whole community.

Supporting local entrepreneurs benefits the whole society. This program empowers women and other vulnerable people to gain valuable business skills. Their businesses will address the everyday needs which will transform the lives of the community by providing products and services that never existed in the area. Businesses will also increase the employment rate of youth and women, contributing not only to economic growth but also to the social development of the whole community.
